Expelled MLA Granted Bail in Sexual Assault Case
A man named Rahul Mamkootathil, who used to be a member of the Congress party in Kerala, was arrested for a serious crime.
He asked a court to let him out on bail, but another court said no because they thought he had done similar bad things before.
However, a higher court in Pathanamthitta decided to give him bail after he appealed.
The woman who accused him said he befriended her online, made her book a hotel room, and then hurt her.
She also said she got pregnant and lost the baby because of what he did.
Expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil was granted bail in a sexual assault case by the Pathanamthitta District and Sessions Court.
The court allowed Mamkootathil’s appeal against the dismissal of his bail application by a judicial magistrate’s court.
The judicial magistrate’s court had denied bail citing serious allegations and similar past incidents.
The complainant, an NRI woman, alleged that Mamkootathil befriended her through social media and compelled her to book a hotel room where he allegedly raped her.
The complainant further alleged that she became pregnant following the assault and later suffered a miscarriage.
