India Warns Bangladesh Over Threats
The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has warned Bangladesh that India will not tolerate threats to separate the North Eastern region from the rest of the country.
He was responding to comments made by a Bangladeshi leader, Hasnat Abdullah, who suggested that India's eight North Eastern states should be cut off from the mainland if India attempts to destabilize Bangladesh.
Sarma emphasized that India is a major global power and will respond firmly to such hostile thinking.
He also advised Bangladesh to focus on its own strategic vulnerabilities instead of issuing threats.
Meanwhile, indigenous youth and students in Tripura protested outside the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, condemning Abdullah's remarks and reminding Bangladesh of India's support during the 1971 Liberation War.
The protesters also raised slogans against Bangladesh's interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, and warned against actions that could force reactions from the Tiprasa people.
