PV Sindhu defends 'monkey whisperers' ahead of BWF World Championships

PV Sindhu defends 'monkey whisperers' ahead of BWF World Championships

A very big badminton competition called the BWF World Championships is coming to New Delhi, India.

Earlier this year, at a different badminton event in the same city called the India Open, a monkey got inside the stadium and bird droppings stopped the matches for a little while.

Organizers did not want that to happen again at the big championship.

Monkeys are scared of bigger animals called langurs, so organizers hired special people called 'monkey whisperers' who copy the sounds langurs make.

When the monkeys hear those sounds, they stay away, and no animals are hurt.

Some people were not happy about this idea and criticized it, but a famous Indian player named PV Sindhu defended it.

She said every big sports event has its own local problems, and she pointed out that Wimbledon, a famous tennis championship, uses a hawk named Rufus to keep pigeons away.

She said she does not understand why people are upset and called the monkey solution 'uniquely Indian.'

The championships will be held from August 17 to 23, and the venue has also been improved in many other ways.

Sindhu said she is sure India will deliver a world-class World Championships.
