Himachal Pradesh restricts police media interactions
In Himachal Pradesh, a new rule says that police officers who are not very high-ranking (like DIG or SP) cannot talk to the news media.
Only the top police officers in each area can talk to the media, and they need permission from their bosses first.
The rule is to keep things organized and make sure everyone follows the rules.
But some news reporters say this is not good because it might hide important information from the public.
They worry that if something big happens, it might be hard for one officer to handle all the questions.
The rule is based on old laws that say government workers can't share information without permission.
Police officers below the rank of DIG and SP in Himachal Pradesh are banned from interacting with the media.
Only the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the range are authorized to interact with the media, with prior approval.
The order is issued under the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964, and the Himachal Pradesh Police Act, 2007.
Media personnel have criticized the order, stating it goes against democracy, transparency, and accountability.
The order emphasizes discipline, obedience to lawful orders, and adherence to prescribed conduct by police officers.
