Hyderabad Pedestrians Face Risks as Drivers Ignore Crossings and Signals

People walking in Hyderabad often have trouble crossing busy roads safely.

Some drivers go through red lights, stop on crossing lines, or turn across the path of walkers.

Some pedestrians also cross when their signal says not to.

A traffic officer said many tickets are issued at one crossing each day.

The city recorded more than 150,000 signal-jumping violations in 2025.

Its report also counted 837 pedestrian crashes, including 105 deaths.

A road-safety advocate says roads and traffic systems often prioritize moving cars over people on foot.

An advocate has asked officials to make crossings safer, including along Tank Bund.

The report says the National Human Rights Commission had already directed state authorities to improve crossings.
