SEBI Proposes 30-Day Lag for Price Data in Education
SEBI, the market regulator in India, has suggested a new rule.
They want to make sure that when people use stock market prices to teach others, they should only use data that is at least 30 days old.
Right now, they can use data that is just one day old.
SEBI is worried that using very recent data might actually be a way to give investment advice, which is strictly regulated.
They got feedback from people involved in the market.
Some said one day was too short and could be misused, while others said three months made the information too old to be useful.
So, SEBI thinks 30 days is a good middle ground.
This rule is important because some people pretend to be teachers but are really giving trading advice, which can be risky for new investors.
SEBI proposed a 30-day lag for sharing price data for educational purposes.
Current rule allows a one-day lag for educational use of price data.
SEBI is concerned about misuse of live data for investment advice.
Stakeholder feedback indicated one-day lag was too short and three-month lag was too long.
The new proposal aims to balance preventing misuse and keeping educational content relevant.
