Adani Ports Eyes £10bn Bid for UK's Largest Port Operator
Adani Ports, a big Indian company that runs ports, is thinking about buying the biggest port company in the UK, called Associated British Ports.
ABP runs 21 ports and handles a lot of the UK's sea trade.
The deal could be worth more than £10 billion.
If it happens, it would be the biggest overseas purchase for Adani Ports and would give it a strong base in Europe.
The talks are still early and no official offer has been made yet.
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) is exploring a bid for Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK's largest port operator.
ABP manages 21 ports across England, Scotland and Wales, handling about 25% of the UK's seaborne trade and is valued at over £10 billion.
Canadian pension funds CPP Investments and OMERS own roughly 64% of ABP, while other investors include GIC, Wren House Infrastructure and Anchorage Ports LLP.
The potential acquisition would be APSEZ’s biggest international deal and give it a major foothold in a G7 economy, complementing its existing global assets in Israel, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Australia.
Discussions are in early stages; no formal offer has been made and the deal is unlikely to close this year.
