Arvind Ltd & Peak Ventures Partner for Gujarat's Cotton Stalk Torrefaction Plant
Arvind Ltd and Peak Sustainability Ventures are working together to build a special plant in Gujarat.
This plant will heat cotton stalks left over from cotton harvesting, turning them into a cleaner, more powerful energy source.
This new energy will help Arvind's factories use less real coal and become completely coal-free by 2030.
This project also creates jobs and turns waste into something useful, showing a smart way to be eco-friendly in manufacturing.
Arvind Ltd and Peak Sustainability Ventures are partnering to build a cotton stalk torrefaction plant in Gujarat.
The plant will have a capacity exceeding 40,000 tonnes, converting cotton stalks into energy-dense biomass.
This biomass will replace coal in Arvind's manufacturing unit boilers, aiding their goal of being coal-free by 2030.
The project aims to provide non-agricultural employment and utilize cotton stalks, preventing their decay or open burning.
Torrefaction enhances the biomass's energy density and calorific value, making it a suitable coal substitute with minimal infrastructure changes.

Current Practice
Torrefaction Project
Energy Density of Cotton Stalks
Current Practice
Arvind currently uses raw cotton stalks for thermal energy, but their fuel characteristics are not as enhanced.
Torrefaction Project
Torrefaction significantly improves the energy density and calorific value of cotton stalks, making them a more efficient energy source.
Coal Replacement Potential
Current Practice
Raw cotton stalks can be used for thermal energy, but torrefaction allows for up to 100% replacement of coal.
Torrefaction Project
The torrefied biomass can seamlessly replace coal in industrial boilers with minimal to no additional capital investment or significant retrofit.
