Gandak Embankment Breach Raises Flood Risk in Bihar Villages

Gandak Embankment Breach Raises Flood Risk in Bihar Villages

A small break appeared in a wall beside the Gandak River in Bihar.

The break is near Khairtwa village in West Champaran district.

The river had risen much higher than its earlier record level.

Water is now moving into nearby farm fields.

Three villages could see flooding in their lowest areas.

Roads and local connections might also be disrupted.

Workers are trying to repair the embankment.

Officials say the nearby National Highway 727 is unlikely to be badly affected because the river is falling quickly.
