Maharashtra Denies Opposition Whip Facilities
In Maharashtra, the government made new rules about whips in the legislature.
Whips are people who help keep their party members in line.
The new rules say that only parties with at least 10% of the total seats in the assembly can get special facilities for their whips.
The opposition parties, like Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT), don't have enough seats to qualify.
So, they might lose some of the benefits they used to get.
The opposition parties are upset and say this is unfair.
The government says the rules are standard and follow previous orders.
The Speaker has not yet agreed to give the opposition a leader, which is a special position for the main opposition party.
This has been a problem for the last three sessions.
Maharashtra government issued a GR standardizing whip facilities in the legislature.
Opposition parties with less than 10% House strength may lose state-funded whip facilities.
Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and NCP (SP) do not meet the 10% threshold.
Speaker has not accepted opposition demand to appoint a leader of opposition.
Congress spokesperson criticized the move, calling it 'outrageous' and 'undemocratic'.
