IKEA Expands in India with Online Deliveries and Investment

IKEA, a big store that sells home things, has started delivering its products online in four cities of Tamil Nadu: Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, and Salem.

People in these cities can now buy over 6,400 different home items through the IKEA app or website.

The company is also thinking about opening a physical store in Chennai, but they haven't said when that might happen.

IKEA has been wanting to enter the Chennai market since 2025 and thinks India is a very important market for them.

They already have stores in other parts of India and are planning to grow more.

All their deliveries in Tamil Nadu will be done using electric vehicles, which is good for the environment.

They also want to open stores near metro stations or other public transport places.

Right now, they have stores in Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, Bengaluru, Worli, and New Delhi, and they deliver to many other cities in India.

IKEA plans to double its investment in India to over 200 billion rupees ($2.2 billion) in the next five years, aiming to quadruple its sales and increase local sourcing.

The CEO of IKEA said he is emotionally biased towards India and sees it as a long-term growth market.

He also mentioned that IKEA is working with Indian suppliers to help them grow and connect with the global supply chain.

India currently makes about 1% of the world's furniture, but IKEA believes this should increase.

IKEA exports from India have crossed €400 million annually, and this is just the beginning.
