Assam First State to Constitute 8th Pay Commission
Assam has become the first state in India to set up its own 8th Pay Commission for government employees.
This commission will review and update the salaries and pensions of state employees.
The 8th Pay Commission is expected to start on January 1, 2026, but the actual changes might take until late 2026 or early 2027 to be fully implemented.
The central government's 8th Pay Commission will also affect central government employees, but the exact salary increases will only be known after the recommendations are finalized.
Assam's move is seen as a step towards better employee welfare and progressive governance.
Assam is the first state to constitute the 8th Pay Commission for its employees, chaired by former additional chief secretary Subhas Das.
The 8th Pay Commission is scheduled to come into effect from January 1, 2026, replacing the 7th Pay Commission.
The central government's 8th Pay Commission will review salaries, allowances, and pension benefits for central government employees and pensioners.
The actual implementation of the 8th Pay Commission's recommendations is expected to be delayed until late 2026 or early 2027.
Assam's proactive move could result in state employees receiving pay hikes sooner than central government employees.
