BJD MP Santrupt Misra Challenges New UPI MDR Fee

BJD MP Santrupt Misra Challenges New UPI MDR Fee

The government plans to charge a small fee on some UPI payments to merchants.

The fee would be 0.4 percent for payments above Rs 2,000.

It is scheduled to begin on October 15.

BJD MP Santrupt Misra says the digital-payment system needs funding.

He believes the government could use part of the Reserve Bank of India’s dividend.

He also says banks connected to NPCI could help pay for the system.

Misra warns that shops may earn less money or charge customers more.

The government says the fee will not affect consumers.

Misra disagrees with that claim.
