Zoho Co-Founder Ordered $1.7B Bond in Divorce Dispute
Sridhar Vembu, who co-founded the software company Zoho, is going through a divorce.
The court in California has asked him to put up a huge bond of $1.7 billion.
This is because his ex-wife, Pramila Srinivasan, says he might be moving money and shares of the company to family members to avoid sharing them with her.
The court has also appointed someone to take control of Zoho's assets to make sure nothing is moved or sold until the divorce is settled.
Vembu says he only owns 5% of the company, but his ex-wife disagrees and says she helped him build the company.
The court is trying to figure out who owns what and make sure everything is fair.
Srinivasan is an academic and healthcare technology leader, and she has accused Vembu of abandoning her and their son.
Vembu denies these allegations and says he continues to support them financially.
A California court ordered Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu to post a $1.7 billion bond in his divorce case with Pramila Srinivasan.
The court appointed a receiver to oversee Zoho's assets and prevent any transfers or dissipation during the divorce proceedings.
Srinivasan alleges Vembu transferred substantial Zoho shares to family members, leaving him with a claimed 5% stake.
Vembu denies the transfers and asserts his stake has always been 5% following a 2010 restructuring.
The case highlights concerns over financial transparency and potential breaches of fiduciary duties in the divorce settlement.
