BMC Seeks IIT-Roorkee Review of Revised Malabar Hill Reservoir Plan

BMC Seeks IIT-Roorkee Review of Revised Malabar Hill Reservoir Plan

Mumbai’s civic body wants to build or repair a water reservoir at Malabar Hill.

It has asked IIT-Roorkee to check whether the new plans are safe and workable.

The institute will be paid ₹22 lakh for this review.

Earlier plans would have required cutting 389 trees.

The revised plan would cut 82 trees, saving 307 trees.

IIT-Roorkee found that the old reservoir could be repaired instead of demolished.

However, repairs cannot happen while the reservoir is being used to supply water.

The BMC is therefore also considering a new three-tier tank beside the existing one.
