Four Charged in Louvre Jewel Heist, Suspects Linked to Local Suburbs
A big jewel theft happened at the Louvre museum, where valuable treasures were stolen very quickly in broad daylight.
Police have now charged four people.
They used a special lift to get up to a window, broke in, and then used tools to get into the display cases.
They escaped on scooters.
The police chief believes the thieves are just regular people from neighborhoods near Paris, not part of a big criminal group.
Two of the people charged are a man and a woman who are married and have kids.
Their DNA was found in the lift used during the robbery.
The stolen jewels, including a crown and necklaces, are still missing and police are looking for them.
They also think at least one more person involved in the heist is still out there.
Four individuals have been charged in connection with the $102 million Louvre jewel heist, which took place in less than seven minutes.
The Paris prosecutor stated the heist was likely carried out by petty criminals from low-income northern Paris suburbs, not organized crime professionals.
Two new suspects, a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman who are a couple with children, were arrested and charged; both deny involvement.
DNA evidence from the basket lift used in the heist links the man to the crime, and his partner's DNA may have been transferred.
Authorities believe at least one more person involved in the heist is still at large, and the stolen jewels have not been recovered.
