Australia Tightens Gun Laws After Bondi Shooting
Australia's lower house of Parliament passed new gun control laws after a bad shooting at Bondi Beach that killed 15 people.
The new laws will make it harder to get a gun and will buy back some guns to reduce the number in the country.
The government says there are too many guns in Australia, and they want to do something about it.
Some people who didn't vote for the new laws say the government should also focus on stopping hate speech.
The new laws will now go to the Senate for a final vote.
Australia's lower house passed new gun control laws in response to the Bondi Beach mass shooting that killed 15 people.
The new laws include a national gun buyback scheme and tougher background checks for gun licences.
The bill passed with a vote of 96 to 45, without the support of the conservative opposition coalition.
New South Wales has also passed laws limiting the number of guns per individual and mandating more frequent licence renewals.
The government cited the high number of firearms in Australia, with a record 4.1 million last year, as a reason for the new laws.
