Dhiraj’s World Cup Gold Raises India’s Asian Games Hopes
Dhiraj Bommadevara won a very important archery gold medal before the Asian Games.
He became the first Indian man to win the Archery World Cup Final.
Dola Banerjee, another Indian archery champion, said this could make Dhiraj much more confident.
She also believes his success can encourage the rest of India’s team.
India’s Asian Games squad has many young and new archers.
The team will face strong competitors from Korea and China.
India won nine archery medals at the previous Hangzhou Games and hopes to win more this time.
Experienced archers such as Dhiraj, Ankita and Jyothi Surekha Vennam can help guide the younger athletes.
The Asian Games may also help India pursue Olympic qualification and prepare for Los Angeles 2028.
Dhiraj Bommadevara became India’s first male archer to win an Archery World Cup Final gold, 19 years after Dola Banerjee’s victory.
He defeated the season’s top eight archers in Saltillo, Mexico, following a World Cup gold at Antalya Stage 3.
Dola Banerjee said Dhiraj’s form, consistency and mental toughness could inspire India’s Asian Games team.
India’s largely new-look squad aims to surpass its record nine-medal haul from the previous Hangzhou Asian Games.
Dola highlighted Olympic qualification opportunities and called for more training camps and team bonding before Los Angeles 2028.

Reasons for caution
A World Cup Final victory does not guarantee Asian Games medals, where India will face full-strength Korean and strong Chinese teams.

Reasons for optimism
Dola said the team is not completely inexperienced because Dhiraj and Ankita can guide the younger archers, while Jyothi Surekha Vennam can support the women’s compound team.
