SEBI Extends Retail Algo Trading Rollout Timeline to 2026
SEBI, India's market regulator, is giving stock brokers more time to get ready for new rules about automated trading, called algo trading.
Algo trading uses computer programs to make trades.
Brokers now have until April 2026 to fully implement the new rules.
They must register at least one algo strategy by October 31, and all API-based retail algo products by November 30.
If brokers don't meet the deadlines, they can't sign up new clients for algo trading starting January 5, 2026.
This is to make sure everything works smoothly and safely.
SEBI extended the timeline for implementing algo trading rules for retail investors.
Brokers need more time to update their computer networks for safer trading.
Brokers must register at least one algo strategy by October 31.
Full registration of API-based retail algo products must be done by November 30.
Failure to meet deadlines will restrict brokers from onboarding new retail clients.
