Karnataka CM defends Congress MLA’s resignation amid severe drought debate

Karnataka is facing a serious drought, which means there has not been enough rain.

Many farmers borrowed money and planted crops, but their crops and livelihoods are at risk.

Congress MLA Yashavantharaya V Patil offered to resign because people in his constituency were pressuring him to help them.

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said Patil was upset because he wanted relief for farmers.

Opposition members brought Patil’s resignation letter into the Assembly.

Shivakumar said drought areas must be identified using official rainfall rules.

He also said the government had tried cloud seeding, with mixed results.

The Chief Minister asked all legislators to stay in the Assembly and speak for their constituents.
