Fiber Cut Disrupts Flights at Busy East Coast Airports

Fiber Cut Disrupts Flights at Busy East Coast Airports

The Federal Aviation Administration had to stop some flights on Monday.

A communication connection failed, and a backup fiber cable was accidentally cut at a construction site.

This made it difficult for air traffic controllers to manage planes.

Flights were affected around New York, Philadelphia, and Boston.

More than 1,000 flights were delayed or disrupted.

At one point, planes could not arrive at three major New York-area airports.

The problem happened as world leaders were traveling to New York for a United Nations meeting.

The incident showed that the United States air traffic control system can be vulnerable when its equipment fails.
