Delhi Extends 45 Metro Station Closures Amid CJP Protest
The Delhi Metro kept the entrances and exits of 45 stations closed longer than first planned.
They were supposed to reopen at 6 pm on Saturday, but the closure was extended until 10 pm.
The change was made during security arrangements for a protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party.
The party wants the chief election official, Gyanesh Kumar, to resign.
It alleges there were problems with voter lists and voter registration forms.
Police had asked the Metro to take precautions because of expected crowds near sensitive places.
The Metro had first listed 57 stations, then reduced that number to 45.
Security agencies said they would review the situation, and DMRC did not confirm the stations would reopen exactly at 10 pm.
Delhi Metro extended entry and exit closures at 45 stations until 10 pm on October 10; they had been due to end at 6 pm.
The restrictions began at 9 pm on October 9 after a Delhi Police request citing security concerns and anticipated crowd movement near sensitive locations.
DMRC had earlier reduced the list of affected stations from 57 to 45; interchange remained available at affected stations except New Delhi under the earlier advisory.
The Cockroach Janta Party called the demonstration to demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged electoral-roll and Form 6 irregularities.
DMRC said security agencies would review conditions and provide further updates; it did not confirm when the stations would reopen.
