Manipur seeks police action over extortion claims at National School Games
There was a big sports event called the 69th National School Games in Imphal, Manipur.
A parent from the Rajasthan team said that some people stopped them on their way to the event and asked for money, which is called extortion.
The parent later said he made a mistake and that no money was taken.
The people in charge of the event in Manipur asked the police to check if this really happened and to take action if it did.
The police started looking into it, but the Rajasthan team had already left without making an official complaint.
The event ended on January 18, and people are upset because they expect the organizers to keep the participants safe and make sure everything goes smoothly.
Manipur’s Director of Youth Affairs and Sports requested police action to verify extortion allegations made by the Rajasthan contingent during the 69th National School Games.
The alleged extortion incident occurred on December 11 on the Dimapur–Imphal route, where the Rajasthan team was reportedly stopped and pressured to pay money.
The Rajasthan contingent also claimed lapses in post-event arrangements, including issues with return tickets.
Police initiated inquiries but found it challenging to take further action as the Rajasthan team had left without lodging a formal complaint.
The parent who made the extortion claim later clarified that there was no extortion, but the driver was taken aside for some time.
