Assam’s Maternal Mortality Falls Below National Average, VP Says

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan said Assam has made important progress in healthcare.

He said the state’s maternal mortality ratio is now lower than the national average.

Maternal mortality measures how many mothers die during pregnancy or childbirth for every 100,000 births.

He also praised India’s healthcare work during the past decade.

He pointed to Ayushman Bharat, a programme that helps eligible families pay for medical treatment.

He said Assam now has more medical colleges and is building more.

A new cancer-treatment facility is also planned in Guwahati.

Radhakrishnan told graduating healthcare students to be kind, ethical and scientifically skilled.

He also asked them to avoid drugs and excessive social-media use.
