WB CM accuses TMC of exploiting 1993 police firing
The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, recently presented a report about a tragic event that happened in 1993.
Back then, police fired on a group of Youth Congress supporters during a rally, killing 13 people.
The report was made by a commission set up by the previous government led by Mamata Banerjee.
Adhikari said the TMC used this incident for political gains and did not follow the report's suggestions, like paying money to the families of those who died or were hurt.
He also mentioned that key witnesses, including Mamata Banerjee, were not properly involved in the investigation.
The TMC has been commemorating this day as Martyrs’ Day every year.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari tabled the Justice Sushanta Chatterjee Commission report on the 1993 police firing in the West Bengal Assembly.
The report recommended Rs 25 lakh compensation for each killed and Rs 5 lakh for each injured, but the TMC government did not implement these recommendations.
Adhikari accused the TMC of using the incident for political gains without ensuring justice for the victims.
The commission found no justification for the police firing and questioned the circumstances leading to the use of force.
Key witnesses, including Mamata Banerjee, were not called to testify before the commission.
