India's Bullet Train Progress and Metro Expansions
India is building its first bullet train, which will run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
The train will be very fast, going up to 320 km per hour.
The first part of the train line will open on August 15, 2027, between Surat and Vapi.
The whole line is expected to be finished by December 2029.
The train will have 12 stations and will take only about 2 hours and 17 minutes to go from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
The project costs a lot of money, around Rs 1,08,000 crore, and Japan is helping to pay for most of it.
Additionally, Mumbai is getting new Metro lines in 2026.
These lines will help people travel more easily in and around Mumbai.
Some parts of these Metro lines will open in January 2026, and the rest will be finished by mid-2026.
Recently, a 1.5-km-long mountain tunnel in Palghar district was completed, which is one of the longest tunnels in the area and is part of the bullet train project.
India's first bullet train will launch on August 15, 2027, with the inaugural run covering 100 km between Surat and Vapi.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) project is a 508 km corridor with 12 stations, costing Rs 1,08,000 crore, with 81% funding from Japan.
The bullet train will operate at speeds of up to 320 kmph, reducing travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to approximately 2 hours and 17 minutes.
The project will be completed in phases, with the entire corridor expected to be operational by December 2029.
In 2026, portions of four Mumbai Metro lines and one extension are expected to become operational, enhancing connectivity in Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
