Supreme Court Rejects Actress Pavithra Gowda's Review Plea in Murder Case
Imagine a famous actor and actress are accused of a very serious crime, like murder.
The police believe they, along with others, hurt and killed a fan named Renukaswamy because he sent some bad messages.
A lower court gave the actor and actress bail, which means they could go free while waiting for their trial.
However, the government disagreed and appealed to the highest court, the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court agreed that the actor and actress, even though they are famous, should not get special treatment and cancelled their bail.
The actress then asked the Supreme Court to rethink its decision, but the court said no.
They explained that being famous doesn't mean you are above the law, and everyone is equal when it comes to following rules.
The Supreme Court dismissed actress Pavithra Gowda's review plea challenging the cancellation of her bail in the Renukaswamy murder case.
The court had previously, on August 14, cancelled the bail granted to Gowda, actor Darshan, and other accused in the murder of fan Renukaswamy.
Renukaswamy was allegedly abducted and tortured for three days in June 2024 by the accused, and his body was later recovered.
In its August 14 verdict, the Supreme Court emphasized that celebrity status does not exempt individuals from legal accountability or grant preferential treatment for bail.
The High Court had initially granted bail to the accused on December 13, 2024, which the Karnataka government appealed to the Supreme Court.
