CBI Probes 2 Crore Embezzlement at India's Geneva Mission
A man named Mohit, who worked at India's office in Geneva, Switzerland, stole about Rs 2 crore.
He did this by changing the codes on payment slips so that the money went to his own account instead of the vendors.
He used the money for gambling and trading cryptocurrency.
The theft was found when auditors noticed double payments to a travel company.
Mohit admitted to the crime and was sent back to India.
The police are now investigating him for stealing the money.
This is not the only case; other government workers have also been caught stealing money for similar activities.
Mohit, a former accounts officer, embezzled 2 lakh Swiss francs (Rs 2 crore) from India's Permanent Mission in Geneva.
He diverted funds to his personal account by replacing vendor QR codes with self-generated ones.
The scam was detected when auditors noticed duplicate payments to Ejey Travels.
Mohit admitted to using the funds for crypto-gambling and was repatriated to India.
