New CAFE-III Norms Give EVs Threefold Compliance Benefit

New CAFE-III Norms Give EVs Threefold Compliance Benefit

The government has created new rules for how fuel-efficient cars must be.

These rules are called CAFE-III.

They will start in April 2027.

Electric cars will receive extra credit toward meeting the rules.

The credit is three times the normal benefit.

A previous plan to give special help to small petrol cars was removed.

This means the new rules favor electric vehicles more than small petrol cars.

Car companies may plan more electric vehicles over the next five years.

The rules themselves are not expected to make small cars cheaper.
