IIT Kanpur to Launch Hospital & MedTech Hub: A New Approach
Imagine a school where doctors and engineers work together!
IIT Kanpur is building a special school and hospital to do just that.
This new place will teach doctors how to use cool technology and create new medical tools.
It will have a big hospital, a cancer center, and labs for inventing new things.
Students will learn to mix medicine and engineering.
The goal is to make healthcare better and more affordable, especially for people in the local area.
They're hoping to create new devices, like an artificial heart and a stair-climbing wheelchair, to help people.
It’s like a teamwork project to improve healthcare for everyone.
IIT Kanpur is constructing the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, blending medicine, engineering, and entrepreneurship.
The project includes a 500-bed hospital, a cancer care center, and advanced R&D centers.
Medical students will have the option to minor in engineering to foster clinician-innovators.
The school aims to develop affordable medical devices and solutions to healthcare challenges.
Construction began in October 2023 with expected operation by early 2027.
