France Celebrates National Day in Kolkata
The French National Day reception was held at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata this year, instead of the usual venue.
The consul general of France, Thierry Morel, explained that they wanted to try something new and more central.
He reminded everyone that July 14 celebrates not just the storming of the Bastille but also the Fête de la Fédération, which symbolizes national unity.
Morel announced a major economic conclave in December and expressed confidence in the restoration of the Registry Building in Chandernagore.
The evening included performances by students and discussions about France's World Cup prospects.
