CPI Leader Alleges Vote Buying Ahead of Dharapuram By-Poll

M. Veerapandian, a leader of the Communist Party of India in Tamil Nadu, said parties were offering money to influence voters in Dharapuram.

He accused some leaders of making promises about village projects just before the election.

He asked why those projects had not been completed earlier.

He also said some public facilities, such as hospitals and bus terminals, were unfinished or unused.

Veerapandian said his party would speak with voters and discuss policies and social issues.

He asked the Election Commission to help prevent people from being paid for their votes.

The by-election was scheduled for October 6.

These claims were made by Veerapandian and were not independently established in the report.
