SRSP Lifts Gates to Manage Floodwater Release
Imagine a big water storage tank called SRSP.
Because of heavy rain upstream in Maharashtra, a lot of water is flowing into it.
The tank is almost full, so officials are letting some water out to prevent it from overflowing.
They've opened the gates to release extra water into the river, warning people living nearby to be careful.
They're also working with officials in Maharashtra to keep an eye on the situation.
Officials opened 38 gates of the Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) to release floodwater.
The project received inflows of 1,25,400 cusecs while releasing 1,61,867 cusecs.
The current water storage is 74.425 TMC ft, nearing the full capacity of 80.5 TMC ft.
Authorities alerted downstream residents and advised fishermen to stay away from the Godavari river.
Officials are monitoring the flood situation and coordinating with Maharashtra.
