Mumbai's BKC Pod Taxi Project Faces Cost, Capacity Questions

Mumbai's BKC Pod Taxi Project Faces Cost, Capacity Questions

Mumbai is planning a small vehicle system called a pod taxi in the BKC area.

Each pod may carry only four to six people.

A transport expert says the system could be too expensive for many daily commuters.

The expected fare is about Rs 21 for every kilometre.

Critics also worry that the pods may not carry enough people to reduce traffic.

Architects say construction has affected public spaces in Bandra East.

They are concerned about trees, mangroves and the area around the Mithi River creek.

They want an independent environmental study before more major construction happens.

They also suggested dedicated electric bus lanes as another possible option.
