African Swine Fever devastates Mizoram's pig population
In Mizoram, India, a very bad sickness called African Swine Fever has been hurting pigs for many years.
In 2025 alone, over 9,700 pigs died, and more than 3,600 were put to sleep to stop the sickness from spreading.
This has been very sad for the families that raise pigs, as they have lost a lot of money.
Since 2021, more than 72,000 pigs have died, and the total money lost is over Rs 1,011 crore.
The government has given some money to help the farmers, but only for the pigs that were put to sleep, not for the ones that died from the sickness.
