Hyderabad Water Board to Install AMR for 2,984 Connections
The Hyderabad water board is putting new smart meters on almost 3,000 water connections in the city.
These meters will count how much water each business uses and send the bill to the customers every month.
If a factory uses water to make drinks, it will pay Rs 220 for every 1,000 litres.
If a place only uses water for drinking, it will pay Rs 120 for every 1,000 litres.
The project costs about Rs 31.7 crore, and the board has already collected Rs 33 crore from customers who didn’t have working meters.
The new system will let people see their water use online and stop workers from having to visit each site to write bills.
HMWS&SB will install automatic meter reading systems on 2,984 industrial and commercial water connections in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.
New meters will bill customers monthly based on actual water usage, replacing manual meter checks.
Charges differ: Rs 220 per 1,000 litres for water used in production (e.g., soft drinks) and Rs 120 per 1,000 litres for drinking‑water use by employees.
The project costs Rs 31.70 crore, and the board has already collected Rs 33 crore from customers without functioning meters.
Usage data will be available online, and faulty meter revenue losses will be addressed.
