India's Shipping Sector Sees Credit Surge
India's shipping sector is getting more loans from banks.
In October 2025, the loans given to this sector were ₹9,959 crore, which is a big increase from last year.
This growth is happening because India's ports are getting better and handling more cargo.
Also, the government is helping to build more ships in India, which makes it easier to get loans.
The government has even given special status to big ships, making it cheaper to borrow money for them.
All these changes are making the shipping sector stronger and more reliable.
Outstanding credit to India's shipping sector reached ₹9,959 crore in October 2025, up 28% year-on-year.
Port reforms and increased shipbuilding activity have driven the surge in credit.
Major ports recorded 7-8% year-on-year growth in cargo handled through April-November 2025.
The government has notified a ₹44,700 crore financial package for domestic shipbuilding and development of shipyards.
Infrastructure status has been granted to large commercial vessels, improving access to affordable financing.
