342 AICTE‑Approved Technical Institutions Closed in India
The Indian government says that 342 technical schools that were approved by the AICTE have shut down in the last three years.
This happened even though more students were enrolling in technical courses.
Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, a minister, gave the numbers to a member of parliament named Rahul Kaswan.
The ministry explained that the AICTE follows rules in the AICTE Act of 1987 and a handbook called APH to decide which schools close.
The government is working on ways to keep the remaining schools open and running well.
342 AICTE‑approved technical institutions closed in India over the past three years.
The closures occurred despite a rise in student enrolment.
Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education, provided the figures in a written reply to MP Rahul Kaswan.
The Ministry said AICTE processes closure applications following the AICTE Act, 1987 and its Approval Process Handbook.
The government is taking measures to improve the viability of remaining technical institutions.
