Australia Weighs Nathan Lyon’s Future Amid Pace Push
Nathan Lyon has been one of Australia’s most successful Test bowlers.
He has taken 571 wickets in 143 Tests.
However, selectors are thinking about using only fast bowlers in some upcoming matches.
This is because certain pitches may help fast bowling more than spin.
Lyon did not have a strong first match against Bangladesh, while the fast bowlers did most of the work.
He bowled better in the second innings but was still used only a little.
Lyon believes he is still good enough to play every Test.
The selectors must decide when his experience and spin will be most useful.
Nathan Lyon’s automatic place in Australia’s Test team is under scrutiny as selectors consider pace-heavy attacks.
Selectors are weighing an all-pace lineup for upcoming series against South Africa and New Zealand.
Lyon took 1-125 in the first Bangladesh Test and was out-bowled by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
He responded with 3-25 in the second innings, but Australia’s pace bowlers dominated the match.
Turning 39 in November, Lyon remains confident he can contribute and belongs in the Test side.
