RBI Announces ₹1 Lakh Crore OMO Purchases & $10 Billion Swap
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced two big plans to help banks have more money.
First, they will buy government bonds worth ₹1 lakh crore in two parts on January 29 and February 5.
Second, they will hold an auction on February 4 where banks can sell dollars to the RBI and buy them back later.
This is like a loan where banks get money now and pay it back with interest later.
The goal is to make sure banks have enough money to lend to people and businesses.
RBI to purchase government securities worth ₹1 lakh crore in two tranches of ₹50,000 crore each on January 29 and February 5.
RBI to conduct a USD 10 billion buy/sell dollar-rupee swap auction on February 4 for a tenor of three years.
The swap will involve banks selling US dollars to the RBI and agreeing to buy them back at the end of the swap period.
The auctions were originally scheduled for February 5 and February 12 but have been rescheduled.
The measures aim to inject liquidity into the banking system.
