ED Raids Six Locations in J&K Amid Narco-Terror Funding Probe
Imagine people are selling illegal drugs, like heroin, that come from Pakistan.
The money they make is being secretly sent to fund terrorist groups.
This money is moved around in tricky ways, like being deposited into local bank accounts and then sent to people working in Dubai, who act as money carriers.
From Dubai, the money is then sent to terrorists.
Law enforcement, called the Enforcement Directorate, is searching several places in Jammu and Kashmir, including the house of a former politician who is already in jail for this case.
They are trying to find evidence and stop this illegal network that uses drug money to support terrorism.
The investigation also involves a separate detention of cash that was allegedly meant for the former politician to fund separatist groups.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at six locations in Jammu and Kashmir as part of a narco-terror funding investigation.
Searches included the residence of former minister Jatinder Singh alias Babu Singh, who was arrested in 2022 in connection with the case.
The investigation focuses on a narco-terror module allegedly smuggling heroin from Pakistan and using the proceeds to fund terrorist groups like Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.
It's alleged that around Rs 2 crore from heroin sales were deposited in Srinagar bank accounts and then transferred abroad via 'mules' in Dubai.
The Special Investigation Agency (SIA) has filed a chargesheet against 12 accused, including Babu Singh, and made further arrests in 2024 related to the syndicate.
