Uttar Pradesh Modernises Disaster Response With Faster Relief

Uttar Pradesh changed how it responds when disasters happen.

Before 2017, local officials handled most rescues and the state often had to wait for national rescue teams.

The state later created its own trained rescue force called the SDRF.

It also made more kinds of accidents eligible for government help, including snakebites, some drownings and lightning strikes.

Families of people who die in covered disasters can now receive up to Rs 4 lakh.

The state says payments should reach eligible families within seven days.

A new technology-equipped headquarters is intended to help officials share information and coordinate rescues.

Flood victims can receive organised food kits, hygiene supplies, women’s dignity kits and fodder for animals.
