Budget 2027 Aims to Reform Ports and Customs
The Indian government is planning to make some changes in the Budget 2027 to make things better at ports and with customs.
Right now, ships take about 48 hours to load and unload in India, which is longer than in places like Hong Kong.
The government wants to make this faster.
They also want to change some rules about customs duties to make things more transparent and fair.
One port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, has already gotten much better, with ships taking only 26 hours.
This is good news because it means things can move faster and cost less for everyone.
Average ship turnaround time in India is 48 hours, compared to less than half a day in top trading hubs.
Government aims to reduce turnaround time and improve customs duty regime in Budget 2027.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port has improved its turnaround time to 26 hours.
World Bank report notes significant improvement in Jawaharlal Nehru Port's performance post-COVID.
Navi Mumbai port ranked 10th globally for improvement in performance between 2020 and 2024.
