ECI Rebuts TMC Allegations, Enhances Security in West Bengal
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had a meeting with the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) to discuss some serious issues.
The TMC had some complaints about the way the ECI is updating the voter lists, especially in West Bengal.
They said that some people, including workers helping with the updates, have died because of the hard work.
The ECI said these claims are not true and asked the TMC to wait until the draft voter list is published on December 9, 2025, to raise any objections.
The ECI also told the police to make sure that the workers updating the voter lists are not bothered or threatened by anyone.
They also said that only Indian citizens can vote.
The ECI is working hard to make sure the voter lists are correct and up-to-date, and they are taking steps to make the process fair and safe.
ECI rebutted TMC's allegations of 'unplanned and coercive' implementation of SIR in West Bengal.
ECI directed West Bengal authorities to enhance security for Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) and set up new polling stations.
TMC alleged around 40 SIR-related deaths, which the ECI dismissed as baseless.
ECI instructed TMC to submit claims or objections after the draft electoral roll is published on December 9, 2025.
ECI emphasized that only Indian citizens are eligible to vote under Article 326 of the Constitution.
