Stroke Patient Held for Hours, Family Blames Police Delay
A 73‑year‑old man named Sharad Kadam had a stroke while driving on July 25.
He was taken to a police station instead of a hospital, where he was kept for almost five hours.
His family says the police thought he was drunk because he was slurring his words, but he was actually sick.
Because of the delay, he missed the best time to get treatment and now has weakness on one side of his body.
The police say he smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking, but a test at the hospital found no alcohol.
A local politician has asked the police chief to investigate what happened.
73‑year‑old Sharad Kadam suffered a stroke while driving on July 25 and was detained at Versova Police Station for nearly five hours on suspicion of drunk driving.
Family says police mistook his slurred speech for intoxication, filed an FIR, and delayed medical care, causing a 12‑hour treatment gap.
Kadam was admitted to Nanavati Hospital at 8 p.m., remains in ICU, and has partial paralysis on his right side.
Police claim Kadam smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking, but a blood‑alcohol test at Nanavati Hospital found no alcohol; a Cooper Hospital test is pending.
BJP MLA Ameet Satam has written to the Deputy Commissioner of Police demanding action over the alleged negligence.
