Maruti Suzuki Expands Gujarat Plant to Boost EV Production
Maruti Suzuki, India's biggest car company, is making more electric cars.
They opened a new factory line in a town called Hansalpur in Gujarat.
This new line can make 250,000 electric cars a year.
The whole factory can now make 1 million cars a year.
The company has been making a car called the eVitara, but it could only make 2,000 of them each month for people in India.
Because of that, people couldn't buy many.
Maruti wants to sell more electric cars, aiming for 15% of all its cars by 2031.
They hope to grow their electric car sales from about 1% now.
The new factory will help them meet this goal.
Maruti Suzuki has opened a new EV production line at its Hansalpur, Gujarat plant, adding 250,000 annual capacity.
The new line brings the Hansalpur facility’s total capacity to 1 million vehicles, part of a 2.9 million overall capacity goal of 4 million by 2030.
The company’s eVitara EV has been limited to 2,000 units per month for domestic sales, prompting the expansion.
Maruti aims to increase EV sales to 15% of total sales by FY31, up from about 1% in FY26.
The expansion follows a missed target of 70,000 EVs last fiscal year and a need to meet prior commitments before scaling up.
