Chandigarh Hospitals Face Severe Nursing Shortages
There are many empty jobs for nurses and other medical helpers in three big hospitals in Chandigarh.
The government says they are still taking care of patients with the staff they have.
One hospital can't give promotions because of a court order.
A politician says they need to fill these jobs quickly to keep hospitals running well.
The hospitals also hire extra staff when they need it.
Everyone agrees having enough staff is important for patient safety.
PGIMER has 247 vacant nursing posts and 120 paramedical vacancies.
GMCH-16 has 281 nursing vacancies and 86 paramedical vacancies.
GMSH-32 has 30 nursing vacancies and 70 paramedical vacancies.
PGIMER's nursing promotions are stalled due to a judicial restraint.
All three hospitals are managing patient care with current staff and outsourced workers.
