Shillong KSU Leaders Shifted to Garo Hills Jails After Rally

Three leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union were arrested after a protest in Shillong became violent.

A court ordered that they remain in jail for 14 days.

The leaders are expected to be moved to separate jails in Garo Hills under heavy security.

Two are expected to go to Tura and one to Williamnagar.

The protest was about several demands made to the Meghalaya government.

These included concerns about a cement project, government hiring and rules for migrant workers.

Officials said stones were thrown and vehicles and public property were damaged.

Police registered 15 cases and are looking for other people allegedly involved.

Extra security forces have been approved to help restore calm.
