Singapore to invest $779 million in AI research by 2030
The Singapore government is going to spend a lot of money, over S$1 billion, on artificial intelligence (AI) research up until the year 2030.
This money will be used to make AI that is responsible and doesn't use too many resources, to help people learn about AI, and to help companies use AI.
They have also spent money on special computers for AI and on a program called AI Singapore.
In 2023, they made a special AI model called Sea-Lion that understands many languages in Southeast Asia.
They recently updated this model in October 2025 to make it even better.
Singapore will invest over S$1 billion ($778.8 million) in public AI research through 2030.
Funds will focus on responsible and resource-efficient AI, talent development, and industry adoption.
The investment is part of a series of government initiatives to strengthen AI capabilities.
In 2024, Singapore allocated S$500 million for high-performance computing and over S$500 million for AI research and development.
AI Singapore released an open-source large language model called Sea-Lion in 2023, with a recent update in October 2025.
