CAG flags lapses in Bengaluru flood projects
The CAG found problems with projects in Bengaluru meant to warn about floods.
The KSNDMC, which was in charge, spent a lot of money but didn't have a working flood warning system.
Many water level sensors were either not working or stolen.
The CAG said this was a waste of money and put people at risk because there was no good system to warn about floods.
The KSNDMC also didn't keep track of where the equipment was or the data it collected.
This means the people of Karnataka didn't have a good way to know about floods in advance.
CAG flagged wasteful expenditure and lapses in Bengaluru's flood warning system and flood model projects.
Rs 1.61 crore spent on salaries with no flood forecast alert model prepared.
49 out of 100 water level sensors installed on stormwater drains were non-functional.
KSNDMC stated some sensors were removed by BBMP or stolen due to lack of watch and ward.
CAG highlighted negligence in project execution, equipment maintenance, and data collection.
